George Knows by Mindy Mymudes

  George Knows is the story of George, an egotistical basset hound familiar, whose world revolves around food and his witch owner (girlpup, in George's language), Karly.
  Chaos has come to George and Karly's town when a business is attempting to tear down their local park, and a mysterious creature starts lurking in their forests...and leaving behind human bones.
  With both situations causing unease for the locals, George, Karly, and their family take it upon themselves to protect the town and those around them.
  George Knows is told by George, which gives you an interesting perspective on the story. While George witnesses the family working together and plotting their plan of attack, his mind constantly wanders to food, playing, and everything else you'd expect to constantly be running through a dog's mind. It definitely puts an interesting spin on the perspective of the story.
  It was written for Middle Grade readers, and I myself concur that this book is appropriate for children to teenagers. It has an intriguing and mysterious plot that can be intense, but it is not violent or inappropriate for young readers.
  I may not be the proper person to give a full opinion of this book because I am not of the target age, but if the plot is intriguing to you, your child, your niece or nephew, by all means download it!
  It's very entertaining, quite funny, and it has a very promising story!
  My time with George, Karly, and the mysterious creature was very enjoyable. Mindy Mymudes created a very different story that perhaps has a future as a movie.

Lucy, Fallen by Yolanda Olson

  Good and Evil must come together to save the world as we know it, and save Lucy and Deveraux's love as well.

Lucy has fallen in the Western Province and is now held captive by Deveraux, a beautiful and irresistible Elder Devil. Together, the two of them fight through Above and Below to save their friend, and their love.
  After being a fan of hers for as long as I can remember, I've finally read my very first Yolanda Olson novel! Lucy, Fallen was a brilliant choice. It had me entertained and hooked the whole way through.
  It is a short read (it'll take you less than twenty-four hours to start and finish) but you better believe I took my time with it! I very much enjoyed it.
  Lucy, Fallen is quite steamy! Steamy in a good way. I didn't get uncomfortable whatsoever while reading this novel. Sometimes, if there are frequent enough sex scenes, I become uncomfortable and deem it unnecessary, but Lucy, Fallen was a perfect balance of romance and steaminess. Yolanda did a fantastic job! It was very tasteful and sweet.
  I also became very attached to the characters, almost from the very beginning. I fell in love with Lucy and Dev almost immediately.
  Their personalities balance each other's quite nicely.
  After being introduced to Yolanda Olson's writing in a proper way, and instead of just following her on Facebook, I can now say that I am a true fan and I very much look forward to reading more of her work.

Kentucky Moon by Wes McCloud

  Kentucky Moon is about a man, his lovely wife, and their three dogs (who they treat as their children). They live in the depths of Kentucky during the Great Depression. They live a very simple life, but what they have is all they need; love, happiness, and dogs to cuddle up with at night.
  Everything is simple and perfect for Carl Webb and his family. Everything except for a mysterious and murderous killer, lurking within the dark maze of the forest and killing local wildlife.
  Carl doesn't know this, of course, until he stumbles across a massacred bear carcass, that was in no way killed by a hunter, or another bear... It was killed by something with normal-sized hand prints.
  Of course, as I was reading my first Wes McCloud novel, Kentucky Moon, I was more than intrigued. He had set up a plot-line that would no doubt keep me entertained, busy, and obsessively wondering for the next twenty-four hours. (I read quickly.)
  Kentucky Moon was very suspenseful, and in one chapter, spooky enough that I jumped at every single noise that happened around me. (Cats running around, people speaking to me, a speck of dust touching my arm, etc.)
  Wes McCloud has a talent for detail, absolutely no doubt about it. As soon as I started, I was quickly immersed in the atmosphere and the sights and sounds in this story. It was almost as if I were there with Carl, Lila, and Jon (Carl's brother).
  Now, there was one thing that I did get caught on while reading, and that was the strong accents of the characters. They all had a heavy twang, and I did have a hard time adjusting to it, but you'll get used to it like I did. (While hunting for a bear-killing creature, you don't spend too much time talking anyway!)
  Well done, Mr McCloud, well done. I enjoyed this book a lot.

Attachments by Rainbow Rowell

  Attachments is the third book I've read by Rainbow Rowell, and it is now one of my favorites. Of course, I say it's one of my favorites, but as of now there are literally only three books of hers out. But I love them all, so my "favorites" title still stands.
  Lincoln has just taken a job in computer security at the local newspaper, where his only responsibility is to read through emails and make sure that everyone is behaving. No inappropriate language, no illegal internet surfing, and the like.
  In the process, he comes across Jennifer and Beth, and their incredibly entertaining back and forth emails. They discuss everything from their relationships, to the people who work with them, to their futures. Lincoln should flag them, and stop reading their emails...but he can't.
  Lincoln is so charming and lovable, I just couldn't stand it! He was absolutely precious.
  Also, after reading Eleanor and Park, Fangirl, and Attachments, I've noticed that this is the first novel that Rainbow Rowell has written in a male's perspective. She did an excellent job!
  My opinion on the stories does not differ per perspective, I love them all equally. (Eleanor and Park has a little more of an advantage because...well, it was just so incredible.)
  Rainbow Rowell is one of my all-time favorite authors, she is truly remarkable.
  Her characters are so everyday and normal, you would think that they just walked onto the page from real life.
  Attachments, unlike Eleanor and Park and Fangirl, is actually an adult book, not written for young adults. Although I can see any age reading it. I don't see a difference really. (Except for the fact that Attachments is written about adults, and the same goes for Eleanor and Park and Fangirl being about young adults.)
  In my opinion, her books are interchangeable. Everyone can read them and everyone should.

Doctor Sleep by Stephen King

  The Doctor Sleep announcement was quite shocking, wasn't it? "A sequel to The Shining??" How could there be a sequel to The Shining? I would say that the end of the book was pretty...er...final.
  But no. Stephen King made it so, and so it shall be.
  Doctor Sleep has to be one of the best books I have ever read, ever, in my life. Ever. Doctor Sleep has left such a huge impact on me, that The Shining just feels like a back story. A prequel to the real story, Dan Torrance's story.
  If you haven't read the original story of Danny's life, and his parents' life, here's a brief, spoiler-free synopsis.
  To spend more time on his writing, Jack Torrance takes a job as the Overlook Hotel's winter month caretaker. He brings his wife, Wendy, and his son, Danny, along with him, but Danny has special powers that soon warn him about the dark depths and secrets of the huge, haunted hotel.
  Good, right?
  In Doctor Sleep, and after the Overlook's business is...completed, Danny is an adult (who goes by "Dan" now), and he's slowly backsliding into his father's life-ruining footsteps. He soon meets a little girl, who also has the same powers that he possesses, and he takes her under his wing just the way Dick Hallorann did for him.
  While reading Doctor Sleep, I was more than entertained. I was giddy, I was excited, and I was just dying to get back to Dan's story. It was incredible. Then of course, as the story progressed, I got impatient, I HAD to know what was going to happen! There were several times where I stopped reading and thought, "Wait, everything's happening now and I still have 200 pages left! What's going to happen in 200 pages?!"
  Yeah, it got me that badly. I was hooked. More than hooked. I was a fish who was just hooked and caught, and I was flopping on the sun bleached deck, Mr King standing over me with a gutting knife laughing maniacally. (Pretty descriptive image, eh?)
  Then...then I reached the end.
  This is NOT a spoiler. I repeat: NOT A SPOILER.
  I cried so hard when the book was finished, I just held it in my arms, praying that there would be more somewhere. (I have yet to read the Author's Note in the back though. Score!)
  This is not a spoiler because my emotional state had nothing to do with the story (well, at least half of my tears had nothing to do with the story). I cried because I loved it so much. I loved it so much, and it was OVER. Why do authors do that to their readers? What's up with that?? Just ending a book so suddenly, it's completely and entirely unfair!
  This book took me emotional hostage, and I developed Stockholm Syndrome. I was deliriously happy being held captive in Stephen King's storytelling grasp. The Shining...The Shining was a good prequel. But my book-loving friends...Doctor Sleep is where the real story is.

The Last Dragon Slayer by Martyn Stanley

  The Last Dragon Slayer is the story of Saul Karza, a talented wizard, Korhan, a young warrior, Harald, an adventurer, Votrex, an incredibly strong dwarf, and Silas, The Last Dragon Slayer, and their quest to slay a noble dragon in the land of Torea.
  Along the way they find Brael, a dark elf who's been sentenced to death because of his rare species (who also happens to be my favorite character), and Lady Vashni, a strong female elf who takes a liking to Korhan.
  As the book started, I got well acquainted with the characters and their quest to slay the mighty dragon. It started off slowly, which I didn't mind because I was thoroughly enjoying "meeting" these characters. Soon after we met Silas, "The Last Dragon Slayer," we met Brael and that's when I got hooked.
  I loved Brael, I loved his species, and I knew for sure that the story was going to be promising. But unfortunately, I have to say that if the plot focused more on his story, and the gang's adventure, I would have loved it all of the way though.
  I have a hard time adjusting to female characters once they're introduced in a "mainly male" story, and Lady Vashni was no exception. I didn't care for her at all, or the way she treated Korhan, and unfortunately after a bit into the book, she was the main focus.
  When Brael or Saul would speak up, I would get excited, hoping that the story was going to shift back to them again, but that didn't happen. Vashni and Korhan took over the story.
  I'm not typically one for fantasy either, but occasionally one will peak my interest. I was hoping that The Last Dragon Slayer would grab me like that. I adored all of Mr Stanley's other characters, I just wish he would have focused more on them.
  I'm hoping that in the future, we will learn more about his other characters, and that the spotlight will be taken a bit off of Lady Vashni so that the others will get a chance.
  Mr Stanley's story was promising, his writing was nice, and his characters have a lot of potential, but I'm sorry to say that this wasn't the book for me. Though if Brael got his own book, I would really like to read it.

The Lost One by Meg Collett

  The Lost One by Meg Collett is the second book in the End of Days trilogy, and now, it is my favorite. Before I started it, I chatted with Ms Collett and she told me that this installment of the End of Days series was her personal favorite, and that she thinks she did the best job on it.
  Of course I thought, "Oh, she's the author. It's different for her. I'm sure The Hunted One (book one) will continue to be my favorite out of the two."
  And now...I say this: Meg was right, and I was wrong.
  The Lost One is AMAZING! The continuation of the story, the plot development, and the character progression are beyond incredible. Of course I fell in love with Michaela and Clark as soon as they met in The Hunted One, but as I read on in The Lost One, I truly realized how exceptional they are. They're not just neat characters, they're some of my favorite characters in literary history! Their chemistry is absolute perfection.
  If you are not (YET) a fan of the End of Days series, let me catch you up...
  In The Hunted One, Michaela has just been tricked by her angelic brothers and sisters, she is now cast out of Heaven, and her wings have been extracted from her body. Clark (a human ally) stumbles across a nearly dead Michaela and helps to nurse her back to health. Together they fight to bring Heaven back to the way it once was.
  In The Lost One, Michaela has been betrayed by her love Gabriel, and she's desperately trying to protect the seals of Heaven from the ones who want it most, the Aethere. Meanwhile, the sky is (almost literally) falling, and the ten plagues are being cast on everyone around them. All Hell has broken loose.
  The way that Meg Collett tells this story is truly remarkable. She has a knack for storytelling, and a talent for putting me on the edge of my seat!
  These books are beyond brilliant, I just can't get enough of them.
  Which brings me to my next question...Meg, when will I get a book three??
